High-Precision Custom Sheet Metal Stamping Capabilities

Metal Stamping

Metal Stamping is a process that uses dies and presses to form parts from flat metal. This process involves cutting, bending, punching and other steps. Sheet metal stamping process is often used to produce parts with consistent shapes and openings, such as housings and covers. The custom sheet metal stamping services can achieve both large-scale production and small-scale customization. Large-scale customization can use continuous dies to quickly and efficiently produce complex parts. Small-scale customization can be produced using step dies or single stamping.

RFS can undertake stamping production orders of different sizes. There are also many choices of raw materials, such as stainless steel, aluminum, carbon steel, etc. In addition, whether it is a complex design with bends and holes or a simple flat plate part, RFS can produce the stamped parts required by customers according to requirements.

Aluminum Custom Metal Stamped Parts

If you need strong but light stamping parts, aluminum stamping parts are a good choice. Aluminum stamping parts are lighter, easier to form, and more resistant to rust than stamping parts made of other materials. So they are very suitable for scenes that require good appearance and practicality.

Powder Coating Custom Stamping Parts

Powder coating stamped parts can prevent scratches, corrosion and fading. This surface treatment makes stamped parts more durable, so powder-coated stamped parts are very suitable for outdoor use.

Stainless-steel-custom-stamping-parts

Stainless Steel Custom Stamping Parts

Stainless steel stamping parts are very durable and very common. They can maintain good performance in high temperature and humid environments, so they are often used in harsh or high-standard environments, such as kitchens, laboratories, etc.

Anodized Custom Stamping Parts

Anodized stamped parts are generally aluminum parts. The surface of the stamped parts after anodizing is matte and clean, which is more beautiful and more wear-resistant. Such parts are often used in scenarios where both stylish appearance and wear resistance are required.

Steel-custom-stamping-parts

Because steel has high strength and good load-bearing capacity, steel stamping parts are usually used in situations where they need to withstand higher pressure. Steel stamping parts can also choose different surface treatment methods according to the use environment.

Common Stamping Tools

Stamping involves more than just the dies themselves; it also includes commonly used equipment and auxiliary tools, all primarily focused on “how to stably press out the material.”

  • Stamping Press

The stamping press is the core piece of equipment; we essentially perform all stamping operations here. The dies are mounted on the press, which presses the sheet metal into the required shape through up-and-down movement.

When selecting equipment, RFS prioritizes stability, not just tonnage, but also the ability to maintain precision during continuous operation; otherwise, dimensional fluctuations are likely.

  • Stamping Die

The die is crucial in determining the final shape; the product’s appearance is largely defined by it. Different structures require different die designs, some single-station, others multi-station.

When designing dies, RFS considers not only feasibility but also the stability of subsequent production, ease of use, and long-term consistency.

  • Punch and Die Set

The punch and die are the parts that directly contact the material; one presses down, the other catches, working together to complete punching or forming.

RFS pays close attention to the fit clearance. If the clearance is inappropriate, burrs or dimensional deviations can easily occur, problems that are difficult to completely eliminate later.

  • Feeder

The feeding device mainly feeds the sheet metal into the die segment by segment, which is especially important in continuous production to maintain the rhythm.

When producing batches, RFS generally uses a feeding device in conjunction with the die to ensure more stable positioning at each step and reduce the likelihood of misalignment.

  • Straightener

Some sheet metal may have slight bends before entering the stamping press. In these cases, we need a leveling machine to correct them; otherwise, direct stamping will affect accuracy.

If RFS finds the material unstable before processing, it will generally perform this step to prevent problems from carrying over to later processes.

  • Lubrication System

Lubrication is usually added during the stamping process, primarily to reduce friction, allowing the material to move more smoothly in the die, and also extending the die’s lifespan.

RFS may also perform simple lubrication treatment during production, depending on the material conditions. This is not necessary for every product, but it is more noticeable for parts with high forming requirements.

  • Measuring Tools

Measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers are frequently used in the stamping process, mainly to check for dimensional deviations at any time.

RFS performs basic dimensional checks during production, especially in mass production, conducting random checks to avoid discovering problems only after a completed batch.

Types of Stamping

Stamping isn’t a single process; different products use different techniques. Some are done in a single step, while others are created step by step. Below are some common methods:

Blanking

Blanking primarily involves punching the sheet metal from a large sheet to obtain a basic shape. Think of it as “cutting out” the outline first; subsequent processing is based on this.

RTS generally maintains high-dimensional stability in this step because any deviation at this stage is difficult to correct later. Therefore, the initial work isn’t too loose.

Piercing

Piercing involves punching holes in sheet metal, such as round, square, or irregular shapes. This step is usually done while the material is relatively flat, before bending or shaping.

RTS pays close attention to positional accuracy when handling holes, as some are used for later assembly. If there’s a large deviation in the initial work, the holes won’t align properly later.

Bending

Bending involves folding a flat sheet into a three-dimensional structure, such as a common right-angle or multi-angle structure. This step is also common in sheet metal work.

RFS strives to maintain consistent angles and dimensions during bending, especially for batch production. Inconsistencies will be noticeable during assembly.

Deep Drawing

Deep drawing involves stretching a flat sheet into a shape with depth, such as a shell or cup-like structure. This process places higher demands on materials and molds.

RFS focuses on stability during the stretching process to prevent cracking or uneven thickness. If these issues occur, the entire part is essentially unusable.

Progressive Stamping

Progressive stamping involves processing the material in multiple steps within a single mold. The material is fed forward in segments, completing one step at a time, resulting in the final product.

RFS prioritizes the stability of the entire process in this case, as it’s a continuous production. A problem in one step can affect the entire batch.

Forming

Forming is a broad term that generally refers to making various shape changes to sheet material without completely cutting it, such as ribs and flanges.

When RFS creates these detailed structures, it considers practical use more, such as strength or assembly requirements, and doesn’t just stop at creating the shape.

Sheet Metal Stamping FAQs

Stamping is a manufacturing process that uses a press to compress sheet metal into the desired shape. It encompasses a variety of techniques, including punching, blanking, and bending. Stamping is suitable for mass-producing precision metal parts.

Sheet metal stamping can process a variety of materials, including copper, stainless steel, aluminum, and brass. Different materials have different characteristics and advantages, and we select the appropriate material based on the customer’s specific needs.

Yes, RFS can perform processes such as perforation and notching during the stamping process. We support single-step integrated molding or multi-step processing. While ensuring precision (e.g., hole diameter tolerances of ±0.003mm), we can shorten production cycles.

Sheet metal stamping offers low material consumption and high cost-effectiveness. Furthermore, once the sheet metal stamping mold is manufactured, production efficiency is high, with production speeds reaching dozens of parts per minute. Furthermore, the mold ensures uniform shape for each part, making it particularly suitable for large-scale production.

Of course. RFS supports a variety of surface treatments. After stamping, RFS can perform anodizing, powder coating, polishing, and more. The specific surface treatment depends on the customer’s specific part requirements. If you’re unsure of the desired surface treatment, please let us know your desired finish. RFS will recommend different surface treatments based on your needs.
